Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA) was established in 1993 with an aim to provide quality research and consultancy services in the country.

Over the years, MDRA has worked with some of the biggest and most reputed organisations in the country and has done path-breaking and pioneering work, in the process setting high standards for both itself and for its competitors. Its methodologies in tracking educational institutes and public utilities are well known and even used by the World Bank and such international outfits. Although it is a private limited company, it operates as an independent research agency. It is not part of any industry nor does it have any lobbing interests. Its State of states of India 2022-23 is a reminder of its extensive and objective research database. It has set an example for the role research bodies could play in synthesizing data and analytics.  Aroon Purie, Editor-in-chief of India Today, its parent body, which has been ranking the states of India on performance criteria for over two decades, described MDRA in an editorial as ‘ credible, authenticated data’ for rankings.
